10+ Free Cricut Writing Fonts for Design Space

If you’re like me and you love Cricut crafting, and typography, but you don’t love to pay for fonts and you ESPECIALLY don’t like how Cricut only writes the outlines of your free downloaded fonts, then this list of free SVG Cricut writing fonts you can download to Cricut Design Space is PERFECT for you!

If you don’t already know how to download free fonts to Cricut Design Space, check out our tutorial on how to download free fonts to Cricut Design Space and learn how you can unlock thousands of free fonts that you can use in Cricut Design Space without paying a dime!

Below is a list of my 10 favorite fonts I found that not only function as writing fonts in Cricut Design Space and are free to download, but they’re also free for both personal AND commercial use. So, if you’re a small business owner or have any intention of selling anything you make with these fonts, this is perfect for you because unlike “free for personal use only” fonts, you can make money off of all the amazing Cricut crafts you make using these free Cricut writing fonts! Sweet, huh!?

Now, just to clarify: these fonts are NOT official Cricut writing fonts. Your Cricut will still only draw the outline on the letters since they are downloaded fonts but the loophole with these fonts is that they’re thin enough so the end products will still be filled-in typography.

Do note that since, as far as I know, there isn’t a way to download free writing fonts outside of Cricut Design Space and upload them in a way that it won’t just draw the outline, this does put a limit on how large we can go with these fonts. Essentially these still are bubble letters in Cricut Design Space’s eye but if we keep them small enough, and the lines close enough that they overlap, it’ll still draw as a normal Cricut writing font would.

I note below for each fonts what settings I used for each font (for some cursive fonts you need to adjust the letter spacing to make the letters connect), and I note the font size range that I found gave the best results for being small enough to still read, and large enough to draw like a normal writing font and NOT as bubble letters requiring you to fill them in by hand.

Font 1: Abcl

I love this font because it’s SO versatile. I’d say it’s a bit more feminine than neutral for sure, but what I love is that it could be used for so many different things. It’s not a super fancy cursive that screams “wedding” and it’s not a decorative themed font like the ones from our Best Free Halloween Fonts blog. This font would be great for Birthday or Holiday cards, or for general everyday Cricut writing projects!

If you’re like me and your handwriting is like that of a five-year-old, then this font is PERFECT for helping you deceive loved ones into thinking you have gorgeous handwriting! I don’t know about you but I love giving Cricut-made cards to friends and family for special occasions- they’re fun to make, detailed, you can personalize them, but once I’ve made it and it comes to writing a message on the inside, the second my pen hits the paper I feel like I’ve instantly ruined my masterpiece. It’s like I spent all this time creating this beautiful card just to ruin it with my chicken scratch that is my handwriting LOL! So, save yourself the effort (and the possibility for typos) and type out your message beforehand and let your machine write it for you!

Font 3: Roboto

So, I had originally used the font “Beloved Sans” because it looked really nice and clean and turned out great, but then I realized it’s a font I got from Adobe (I have the monthly Adobe subscription- it’s worth it for graphic designers who use it everyday, but definitely not worth paying for JUST to use a few fonts) SO, I found a very similar font for free on Dafont.com called Roboto and it looks just as good! The only big difference here is that unlike Beloved Sans whose lowercase font is just smaller capital letters, the Roboto font has a standard uppercase and lowercase font so if you want the same all caps Beloved Sans look, you will need to type in all caps.

Now we’re getting into my favorite category of typography: FANCY! I was really excited when I found this font and was even MORE excited to discover that it works great as a Cricut writing font because it’s one you can use to add a lot of value to higher-end projects like wedding invitations! Such a gorgeous, complex, statement of a font that gives you a flawless calligraphy style without any requirement for a steady hand! I think I might need to use this font on a Mother’s Day card.. Or at least on a card I give to my mom… maybe Christmas gift tags too, the possibilities are endless!

I’m a sucker for fonts, I could talk about them all day but I’ll save you the font-talk and leave you with this: THIS FONT IS AWESOME! And, as you can tell in the photos below, it works extremely well in a very large range of font sizes too, you can go pretty large with this font without it turning into outlined bubble letters, woohoo!

Now for a CUTE font! Sweetheart is definitely a super fun font that is simple and cute without going little-kiddish cutesy. This card would be awesome for Valentine’s day projects or for a sweet Mother’s Day card for mom this year. It’s another super thin font that will allow you to go a little larger than some of the other fonts mentioned here which opens up more room for project possibilities. Who doesn’t love that!?

Last but not least, we have our final font: Wollaston. Another great option for a font to use when you’re looking for a super readable fancy font that can go high-end in a simple and pleasing way. I love the flow of this font, it definitely looks like it was drawn by someone with genuinely amazing handwriting (so, definitely not me). It has that polished look without looking too formulated or computer-produced which I like because it’s another perfect font to use for signing cards, writing classy words and phrases and more, in a way that makes YOU look like you have bomb handwriting!
